Name: Lance Matzen
Age: appears to be in his 40s or so, but he'll never tell
Eye color: brown
Hair color: dark, but beginning to gray
Skin tone: slightly paler than average caucasian
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: a few pounds over weight, but obviously fit
Blood type: O-
Physical condition: clearly fit, but beginning to show signs of aging- gray hair, a few extra pounds, etc.
Species: human
Religion: unknown
Occupation: math teacher
History: His father was a high-level government official in an eastern European country, until a violent revolution which forced his family permanently out of the country when he was 7 years old. His family survived as refugees wandering across Europe for the next eight years. When he was 15 his family settled in Denmark, where he jumped into the local culture whole-heartedly, leaving behind his early life as much as possible, including changing his name. Having lacked education since age 7, he educated himself at a super-human pace, the first manifestation of his abilities, and enrolled in university at age 20, where he obtained a Master's degree in engineering. Since then he has worked a variety of jobs, but never kept any for more than 2 years because due to his discomfort with mundane social interaction, people tend to view him as cold and anti-social. This is his first year teaching at Reverie, and his first time teaching below a graduate student level.
Admirable traits: Dedication, loyalty, high intelligence
Negative traits: Narrow-mindedness, too blunt, inadvertently rude, unaware of others' feelings
Fears: Women, deep friendships.
Magic/special skills: can reason at super-human speed, turn off emotions. No one is certain if his competency with technology is due to mild technomancy ability or his own genius.
Prejudices: very feminine girls, people who think they are "too cool for school". However, once they demonstrate competence or a legitimate desire to learn and improve, he will respect anyone, regardless of appearance.
Annoyances: ignorance and incompetence
Habits: likes to hang around the gym for any classes involving sparring, fighting, or any kind of martial arts, and spends much of his time training in weapons and hand to hand combat. He also likes to read Shakespeare.
Favorite food: anything spicy
Least favorite food: he is allergic to peaches
Weapon: ALWAYS carries a knife on his person, even when he's not supposed to. His weapon of choice is a bo staff, but is also comfortable using sword, spear, tonfa, tambo, rope dart, 3 section staff, and empty-handed.
Sample of speech: Lance surveyed the slowly filling classroom from a spot safely behind his desk. As students claimed desks we watched silently, analyzing. The class largely consisted of the girls in tight jeans and boys in loose jeans he suspected most high schools were made of, although having never attended one himself he readily admitted he was somewhat fuzzy on the concept. It took all his self-restraint not to visibly wince at the high-pitched shrieks of laughter from the female side of the class, but he marked a few promising looking students in cargo pants, and even posted a few esoteric geeky jokes on t-shirts. "Perhaps this won't be so bad after all," he thought. "After all, no one's paying me to be their friend." He stood up. "Alright class, let's get started. Who knows the most digits of pi?"
