Headmaster Cato looked out over the mass of students and teachers in the auditorium. He always loved the first day of school. It allowed him to meet new people and express his hopes for the school year. Much better than looking at students' grades on the disappointing last day of school. He smiled, cleared his throat, and tapped the microphone on the podium to get everyone's attention.
"Good morning everyone. I would like to welcome you to Reverie Hills. For some of you it is welcome back, for others, this is your first time here. Either way, I have no doubt that this year will be filled with excitement and learning. Before we officially start the year, there are just a few things I would like to remind everyone of. First, as many of you can no doubt already tell, our school population is rather diverse. Everyone is welcome here, whether they are humans with a bit of magic, or demi gods. This statement also applies to our teachers. There are quite a few who are unusual species and I hope you all will look past that and continue to respect them. The second thing is, please remember the rules, none of us, teachers, staff, or other students, will stand by as someone gets bullied. I dislike having to discipline someone, so let's remember that everyone is here to learn and no one has special treatment. Finally, while I've tried to plan for everything that could happen in the school year, no doubt there are somethings that I did not think of. Should anything unexpected happen, act accordingly and remember that you have all rights to defend yourself should your life be in danger." He smiled at the look of terror passed over some of the younger students' faces. "Now that I'm done scaring you, I wish you all a wonderful school year. And do please behave, the gym teacher Sharthé has volunteered to take over detention and our psychology teacher retired. You older students no doubt know what this implies and as for you younger students, hopefully you will not find out. Now, go out and learn." He stepped back from the podium and nodded at the teachers to take their students back to the class room. The school year had begun.
